B = MAT

Work in progress for a Slot Machine character. Been on this 3D trip lately, picking up where I left off in college. 3D in Blender has been such a fun tool for me as of late, exploring more possibilities for ideas.

Still fleshing out this guy to make cartoon icon representation of one of the most addictive behavior models there is: Good ol’ intermittent rewards.

I’ll leave it here with some quotes on behavior modification that I bookmarked from Nir Eyal’s – Hooked. Just one of the many pieces of reading that got me thinking about the ways in which digital mediums have captured our brains.

Dr. B. J. Fogg, Director of the Persuasive Technology Lab at Stanford University, has developed a model that serves as an elegant way to understand what drives our actions. Fogg posits that there are three ingredients required to initiate any and all behaviors:

(1) the user must have sufficient motivation; (2) the user must have the ability to complete the desired action; and (3) a trigger must be present to activate the behavior.

The Fogg Behavior Model is represented in the formula B=MAT, which represents that a given behavior will occur when motivation, ability and a trigger are present at the same time and in sufficient degrees. If any component of this formula is missing or inadequate, the use will not cross the “Action Line” and the behavior will not occur.
